A FUUN Guide to Getting the Word Out

  • Submit an Announcement to FUUN: a multipurpose form for Committee Chairs, Board members and staff to get announcements to the Newsletter, the Web, the Order of Service and the Weekly Email with just one click.

From the Communication Committee (Comm Comm), here is a handy list of the various ways Committee Chairs, Board members and staff might choose to publicize a FUUN activity, event or other newsworthy item:

  1. The Newsletter. Submit it to the editor, newsletter@firstuunashville.org. The newsletter is published monthly; a list of deadlines is available from the editor upon request. The newsletter editor personally acknowledges each submission with a return email.
  2. The Web. Put it on the blog. If you haven't been given permission to post to the blog, contact the webmaster, webmaster@firstuunashville.org.
  3. The Order of Service. The deadline is noon Wednesday. Submit it to the Church Administrator: office@firstuunashville.org.
  4. Weekly Email. The deadline is noon Tuesday. Submit it to weeklyemail@firstuunashville.org.
  5. Bulletin Board. Schedule as far in advance as possible with the person in charge of bulletin boards. Email communication@firstuunashville.org.
  6. Press Release. For a major event, write a press release and please submit your information to the Communication Committee using our online Press Release form.
  7. The Pulpit on Sundays, if it is a major church event (e.g. the retreat or a church picnic). Be sure to find the Lay Leader a few minutes before the service every Sunday you want an announcement to be made. This is done that morning, not in advance. Please give the announcement to them in writing, preferably typewritten.

This may sound like an exhaustive list. While it could well be exhausting, in fact there are other ways to get the word out. For example, some groups like Social Justice have their own email listserv. And never underestimate the power of word-of-mouth and flyers.
