Associate Minister for Music's Advisory Committee
About the Committee
The Associate Minister for Music Advisory Committee (AMFMAC) encourages, supports, challenges, and evaluates the ministry of the Rev. Jason Shelton, both within FUUN and in the larger community. It is a part of FUUN’s Committee on Ministry.
The Advisory Committee meets monthly to discuss and assess aspects of Rev. Shelton's ministry, including the direction of the music program, preaching, pastoral care, composition, denominational outreach, and work with other faith communities. It also convenes with the larger Committee on Ministry as needed. AMFMAC meetings are confidential, both to honor privacy needs and to promote frank dialogue on issues of concern.
The Advisory Committee encourages members of the congregation to contribute to FUUN’s music ministry by offering feedback (both positive and formative) either directly to Jason or to any member of the committee. Please feel free to approach us during coffee hours or via e-mail at musicadvcom@firstuunashville.org.
Members of the 2009-2010 Advisory Committee
Sandra Desruisseau:
I am an OB/GYN and an instructor at Meharry Medical College. My husband, Andy, and I have been members of FUUN since 2005. We have two little ones, Santiago and Jasmin, who keep us running. I am Colombian and was raised in Los Angeles, California. I am very excited to serve the church as a member of this committee!
Peg Duthie (chair):
I am a copyeditor and writer-for-hire (specializing in healthcare and reference materials). I joined FUUN in 2000, and am currently treasurer of the Endowment Trust, chair of Denominational Affairs, and junior web diva for the church's sermon blog. I also sing in the chamber choir and volunteer with Room in the Inn. I live in an old house with an engineer, a dog, and a piano tuned a half-step high.
David Haas:
I was born and raised in the New York City area, and have lived in Nashville since 1979. I am Associate Professor of Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, where my research focuses on finding the best ways to treat HIV infection. I have a wonderful wife and two beautiful children. I love music and used to be a pretty good athlete many years ago. I started attending FUUN around 2006.
David Martin:
I am the principal of Jere Baxter Middle School. My wife, Teresa, and I have been friends of FUUN for the past four years. We are former members of The Church of the Brethren, where our experiences were steeped in service, social justice, and inclusion, making FUUN a good fit for us. I am a member of the chamber choir and have served on the Leadership Development Committee. I am excited to serve the congregation in this capacity.
Sara Plummer:
I am a retired nurse and general workaholic. I joined FUUN in 1973 and have served on the board and numerous committees (Canvass, Finance, Nominating, RE, and others), as well as running two retreats and a financial campaign. I am also Building/Facilities liaison and a greeter, I supply some of the food for coffee hours, and I provide care for both the memorial garden and indoor plants at the church. I am married to Mike, and we have two grown children.
